Election Efforts by the Local Impact Committee
The results of the 2024 National Election are in our rearview mirror and inauguration on our minds, I wanted to talk about what work the SGA Local Impact Board did and our reflection on the election. Our primary focus this election was voter education and providing ways for students to meet their candidates. We worked directly with eight local candidates and provided opportunities for the table and other ways to interact with the student body, including working with nonpartisan groups to have St. Olaf students work on local election recognition.
We also really focused a lot on voter education and turnout, especially on local elections, as it was a crucial election as Northfield would be getting a new mayor and having multiple contested races. We focused on using a multimedia approach to reach students and provide them with nonpartisan information so they could make the best decision for themselves, including using our website and newsletter.
Finally, we also worked with the IFC Student Election Coordinators to support their efforts to help make sure every eligible student voted by working with their outreach and marketing to increase the scale.
Overall, we were excited about how many Oles showed up at the polls and are very thankful for all our investment in the election process. Thank you all so much for your civic engagement this school year.
